Center for Diabetes Research

Mission Statement:

Diabetes and its complications affect some 20 million Americans with an annual cost to society in excess of $100 billion. In the USA, obesity has reached epidemic proportions which further increases the incidence of diabetes. Diabetes is a serious ailment linked to abnormalities in metabolism and nutritional regimen. It is essential to increase the number of scientists doing basic research relevant to diabetes, and obesity. Our goal is to promote the training of scientists whose research will develop new understandings of the basis of the disease and its complications, and to cultivate basic science research that can speed the discovery of more effective therapies.
